Dear Families,

Thank you for sharing feedback to the Fall Reopening Survey.  Through your feedback we learned that the majority of families feel like their students can be successful and are growing during remote learning and that roughly 50% of our Deep Roots families are not yet comfortable sending their students for in person learning.

Due the increasing infection rates in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and surrounding areas, the Deep Roots Charter School Board has voted to delay the return to in person learning.  This decision was difficult but was made in order to protect the health and safety of our students, families, and staff.  The new reopening plan is:

  • High needs Special Education Students and ELL learners (roughly 5% of DRCS students) will be invited to return for in person learning on Monday, December 7th, 2020.  Our Special Education and ELL team will be in contact with this group of families in the coming days.
  • Grades K-6 students will be phased back into in person learning beginning Tuesday, January 19.  All K-6 students will be invited to return for in person learning, in a hybrid model, by Monday, February 1.  We will share additional details about how this impacts your students and family as they are finalized.

As always, these plans could change again depending on local health and infection rate data.

We understand that families may have many more questions about the return to in person learning.  Please join us for a ZOOM meeting on Monday, November 2 at 4:00pm for additional information and updates.

  • See family email from school email newsletter for ZOOM links to English and Spanish sessions. If you did not receive an email, please submit the form on our contact page with your name, your students name, and your updated phone and email contact information so we can send you the details and update our student information system.

This year is unlike any other.  It has pushed students, parents, teachers, and staff to work through new challenges each day.  At the same time, we’ve seen so many wins in the past few weeks.  We look forward to continuing to work with you in navigating this unique year together.

Sincerely,
The Deep Roots Team
