Position Summary:

We are looking for bright, energetic leaders who are passionate and urgent about solving our nation’s education challenges. Teachers hold primary responsibility for the implementation and development of DRCS’s curriculum and the success of its students. Teachers will report to the School Leader.

Excellent teaching is by far the most significant in-school factor driving student learning. To achieve the results we seek for all of our students, we will have an intensive focus on highly-effective teacher coaching, so that every teacher at DRCS is providing a world-class education for our students. Studies have shown that high quality teacher development can quickly change teacher practice and increase effectiveness, for both new and veteran teachers. Our professional development and coaching model dramatically accelerates teacher growth, ensuring a highly-skilled, highly effective teacher in every classroom. Teachers will be coached more than 10 times as frequently as at even the highest performing schools around the country. We accomplish this through the following actions:

  • The school leader spends 80% of his time developing the teachers and the Instructional Coaches
  • Coach-to-teacher ratio is kept at 10:1 or less
  • The operations team is responsible for all non-instructional responsibilities throughout the building
  • We hire growth-minded teachers who love to practice and to improve their craft from day to day, hour to hour

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Practice and develop Key Teacher Skills daily
  • Bring joy and excitement to the work every day
  • Plan, internalize, and deliver high quality lesson plans using designated curricula
  • Implement curricula and coordinate classroom learning activities grounded in academic standards and character developments
  • Reinforce academic concepts by teaching whole and small groups and tutoring individual students 
  • Support a positive classroom environment by employing classroom management strategies, behavior interventions, and social emotional learning
  • Use assessment data and feedback structures to inform your instructional decisions, attend and take ownership in data meetings with Assistant Principals or other instructional leaders
  • Communicate with students with optimistic growth mindset language
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid PA State Teacher Certification is preferred, not required
  • Must have or be willing to work towards teacher certification
