Position Summary:

We are looking for bright, energetic leaders who are passionate and urgent about solving our nation’s education challenges. Teachers hold primary responsibility for the implementation and development of DRCS’s curriculum and the success of its students. Teachers will report to the School Leader and Instructional Team.

Excellent teaching is by far the most significant in-school factor driving student learning. To achieve the results we seek for all of our students, we will have an intensive focus on highly-effective teacher coaching, so that every teacher at DRCS is providing a world-class education for our students. Studies have shown that high quality teacher development can quickly change teacher practice and increase effectiveness, for both new and veteran teachers. Our professional development and coaching model dramatically accelerates teacher growth, ensuring a highly-skilled, highly effective teacher in every classroom. Teachers will be coached more than 10 times as frequently as at even the highest performing schools around the country. We accomplish this through the following actions:

  • The school leader spends 80% of his time developing the teachers and the Instructional Coaches
  • Coach-to-teacher ratio is kept at 10:1 or less
  • The operations team is responsible for all non-instructional responsibilities throughout the building
  • We hire growth-minded teachers who love to practice and to improve their craft from day to day, hour to hour

Qualifications:

  • Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom
  • Mastery of and enthusiasm for Physical Education and teaching
  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player
  • Belief in service for others and service learning
  • Belief in and alignment with Deep Roots’ mission

Essential Functions:

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
  • For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in education
  • Valid PA State Teacher Certification is preferred, not required
  • General knowledge of several subjects
  • Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
