Position Summary:

We are looking for bright, energetic leaders who are passionate and urgent about solving our nation’s education problem. You do not need to have an education background to become a Founding Social Worker, only a drive to help kids develop a love of learning and become prepared for success in life.

The Social Worker is a full time position focused on helping students cope with personal and  mental health needs that affect their school performance, behavior and socialization. Through one-on-one, small group, or school-wide sessions, the Social Worker will address issues relevant to the student population they serve.  The school social worker will support leadership in identifying students of concern and identifying interventions to support them to better access classroom and academic content. When appropriate or necessary, the Social Worker will provide information for outside support services or agencies to help students and families deal with economic, emotional or physical challenges. The Social Worker will report to the School Leader.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide crisis intervention and advise on behavior management strategies to expedite students’ return to classrooms for learning and to build students’ ability to meet the school’s high expectations
  • Provide one-on-one counseling or group counseling as needed to students and families
  • Coordinate school meetings with families
  • Identify and train others to identify students and family members who may benefit from regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling
  • Develop and implement curriculum for social and emotional development/intervention with students
  • Manage administrative and appropriate direct-service elements of the referral process for social services and special education services
  • Conduct regular needs-assessments of current and emerging student and family needs
  • Use needs-assessments to identify and cultivate internal and external resources and services
  • Refer individuals and families to external resources and services
  • Monitor and facilitate the delivery of external resources and services
  • Evaluate impact and quality of external resources and services
  • Administer records, documentation, and other compliance activities
  • Partner with the Dean of Students to design and coordinate family-engagement and family-education activities
  • Maintain the high behavioral and academic expectations of DRCS, with consistent implementation of DRCS systems, in all classrooms and other public spaces
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree required
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification required
  • Experience working with and in urban schools is highly preferred
