Position Summary:

Deep Roots Charter School is seeking a Founding Assessment and Learning Manager to join the Instructional Support Team of the First Deep Roots Charter School in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate functions as a contributor for many functional areas of the school such as Assessment, Professional Development, Teacher Coaching and Growth, Data Management, Curriculum, and Systems Management. The Manager will work closely with the Instructional Support Team, and School Operations Team and will report directly to the Assistant School Leader. The Assessment and Learning Manager is a highly personable, systematic thinking, and extremely organized individual who believes in the Deep Roots value system and school model. The Assessment and Learning Manager will be flexible and function in multiple capacities daily and will seek to solve problems and challenges that could limit the impact that teachers and school staff can have with students and families. Due to the diverse community in which Deep Roots will be serving, Spanish speaking applicants are not required, but highly preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Student Assessment & Performance Data Management
    • Manage relationships with online and paper-based assessment providers
    • Develop and coordinate schoolwide testing schedules for internal and external assessments
    • Facilitate the use of technology and all materials required for the testing process
    • Leverage best practices to ensure that assessment data is reliable and that all stakeholders (students, families, staff, partner organizations) have access to accurate information about student performance
    • Regularly monitor, review, and problem solve around student achievement trends/data in conjunction with school leadership
    • Manage, train, and support teachers’ use of online grading, interim report, and report card systems
    • Create and implement systems to celebrate student growth and progress, in partnership with instructional leadership and classroom teachers
  • Curriculum Oversight and Management
    • Manage the use of online learning platforms within classrooms
    • Troubleshoot minor educational technology issues
    • Manage and develop curriculum inventories, ongoing materials needs, and reorders
    • Collaborate with operational and instructional colleagues to ensure that deliveries are audited for accuracy, and inventoried/distributed quickly and efficiently • Ensure student and staff spaces at DRCS are set up with the technology, supplies, materials, and resources that they need to be successful.
    • Coordinate with Operational Leadership to ensure that purchases align to organizational financial goals.
  • Adult Learning and Coaching Support
    • Support instructional leadership in the planning and implementation of effective staff development opportunities
    • Support instructional leadership in monitoring progress toward coaching and teacher development goals
  • Instructional Leadership and Support
    • Participate in all instructional Professional Development
    • Leverage skills honed in instructional professional development to be an expert model for DRCS curriculum and Key Teacher Skills
    • Support rapid teacher development and student achievement by providing high quality feedback, coaching to new and experienced DRCS teachers
    • Support with classroom coverages by leading direct instruction for Deep Roots students
    • Create a student achievement focused environment by providing top notch customer service
    • Be willing to step in and “do what needs to be done” when unanticipated challenges surface

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree or Higher Required
  • Current teaching certificate (Pennsylvania preferred)
  • Impactful teaching experience required
  • Experience with Pennsylvania specific and traditional elementary assessment tools (including online platforms) preferred
  • Experience with Apple technology a plus
  • Experience with school information systems and software a plus
