Position Summary:

The Dean of Students ensures a positive, structured, and supportive school culture. They will work with the School Leader to maintain a safe and positive environment through targeted behavior interventions, service, and restorative practices. Additionally, the Dean of Students works to build  a school culture and climate that aligns with Deep Roots Vision and Core Values with every individual who walks through our doors. The Dean of Students also works with the rest of the school leadership team to ensure that all students show dramatic student achievement gains, embody high character, and internalize the school’s values.

Essential Functions:

  • Implementation and oversight of all school wide culture systems and culture calendar (i.e. Harvest Meal, Culture Field Trips)
  • Culture team management and coaching
  • Work with leadership team to plan school wide processes and procedures (specifically those impacting culture)
  • Positivity and restorative systems (i.e. merit mall, Fantastic Friday’s, Kickboard)
  • Develop cultural competencies trainings in conjunction with Principal, Instructional Coach, and LiberatED partnership
  • Uniform messaging to all students and families
  • State reporting on student discipline
  • Oversight and planning of culture specific  field trips
  • Student culture (fun)
  • Community Circle planning and execution
  • Implementation of Deep Roots Way of observations rubric/coaching cycles
  • Lead Daily culture team huddles and culture meetings
  • Model and hold staff, students, and families accountable to Deep Roots Vision, Core Values, and Owl Nest Culture Expectations at all school, community, and outreach opportunities
  • Support with implementation of student supports, specifically related to behavioral supports
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with staff, families and community

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 
  • Experience in an urban school setting;
  • Teaching experience preferred;
  • Documented experience managing a team and implementing school wide cultural systems
